5 Tips to Decorate for the Holidays On a Budget

Decorating for the holidays is exciting, but sometimes it can be very expensive. In this article we want to show you a few ways that you can decorate for the holidays without breaking the bank, and have fun doing it!

1. Use Holiday Scents

Our sense of smell can trigger some powerful memories!

Have you ever walked into a store and smelled some bags of scented pinecones and immediately everything felt like it was Christmas time? Our sense of smell is the strongest memory trigger that we have, so consider getting some gingerbread or hot chocolate scented candles around the house. For an even more affordable way to get those Christmas spirits high, put some Pine and Cinnamon scented pinecones around the house for some extra Christmas cheer this year!

2. Wrap Extra Boxes With Leftover Wrapping Paper And Ribbons

Wrapping leftover cardboard boxes is a great way to decorate on a budget!

This is a great way to utilize what is already laying around the house without spending any extra money. If you have some empty boxes that you aren’t using anymore, don’t throw them away quite yet! Use some wrapping paper and ribbons to put a cheap Christmas spin on your ordinary cardboard boxes, and nobody will know the difference. This is a very affordable way to fill larger spaces with something festive.

3. Decorate With Christmas Cards

This is one of our favorite tips, because not only does it look great and cost nothing, it keeps friends and family front of mind all season long. Instead of just putting Christmas cards up on the fridge where hardly anybody looks at them, put some cards throughout your house! Put them on shelves, cabinets, counters, tables, or anywhere that looks a little empty. Now you spruce up your entire home for free, and you can smile every time you pass a loved one’s smile.

4. Pinecones

Pinecones are one of the most universal holiday decorations. You can put them in your tree, string them together to make garlands, or simply place them throughout your home, just like holiday cards. If you are going for a more classy Christmas look, then you can spray paint them silver or gold, but even by themselves they look great. You can even make some fun family time out of it by going for a walk and seeing who can collect the biggest or the most pinecones! Get some fresh air and add some holiday spirit for free!

5. Paper Christmas Trees

This is another fun idea to do with the entire family. Kids love to make things, so why not turn that creativity into something the whole family can enjoy all season long? If you’re looking for some challenging, but creative ideas check out this video. Or you can go a more simple route and simply fold some paper circles like an accordion and stack them on a wooden dowel or something similar. There are dozens of great looking paper Christmas tree designs on the internet in case you need more inspiration.

Decorating your home on a budget doesn’t have to be stressful. Make the process fun, and enjoy being creative. If you’re like me and you’re not naturally creative, then look around the internet and do some R&D. (Ripoff and Duplicate) Have a wonderful holiday season, and Merry Christmas!
